Your Utah wedding is coming fast, and the next big to-do on your list: decide where to take your engagement photos. There’s everything from sand dunes to castles. With this list, you can hone in and find your unique engagement session location in Utah.

Little Sahara Sand Dunes

Possibly the most unique engagement session location Utah has to offer is the Little Sahara Sand Dunes. This option sports gorgeous skies (especially sunsets) against a soft beige color palette, and the juniper trees and sagebrush provide variety in the sparse, elegant landscape. Fluttery dresses look especially good in this location: run barefoot down a sand dune and let that dress flow behind you!

Bonneville Salt Flats

The Bonneville Salt Flats is one of the best unique engagement session locations out there. Miles of sparkling, salty ground give the impression of being on another planet, and golden hour here is to die for. As a bonus, if you hit the Salt Flats at the right time of the year (usually spring and fall, depending on drought conditions), then you can find them covered in a few inches of water. When this happens, the sky reflects in the water and you get a magical mirror reflection in your pictures. The Flats also have a hidden gem if you’re willing to walk to it: a lake whose color is a gorgeous blue.

Great Salt Lake State Park

Of all of the unique Utah engagement session locations you could choose, I bet you didn’t know the beach was on the table! The Great Salt Lake State Park has a surprising range of photographic options. Go barefoot on the beach, wade in the water, or flirt in front of the foliage in the parking area. If you’re feeling a nautical theme, then the boats in the parking lot make a unique backdrop as well.

Red Ledges

Red rock is one of Utah’s most famous features. If you live close to Moab or St. George, wonderful! If you’re further north, Red Ledges Picnic Area is a good alternative. Located in Diamond Fork Canyon, this location boasts the same beautiful red rock and orange sand as down south. It even has its own sandstone arch. If your photo shoot is in winter, then take advantage of snow on the rock to create vibrant color contrasts.

Castle Amphitheatre

The Castle Amphitheatre, known to Provo locals simply as “The Castle,” is one of the more whimsical, romantic engagement session locations in Utah. Located on the Utah State Hospital’s grounds, the old-fashioned stone walkways and stairs of the Castle give you the perfect setting to show off your love. There’s even a tower with a balcony—appropriate since the Castle is often used for productions of Shakespeare’s plays. If you’re looking for a Romeo-and-Juliet-esque location, look no further!

I’m excited that now you have some ideas for unique engagement session locations in Utah. If you’re still searching for that special spot, Utah has dozens of beautiful options that range from mountains to lakes to cityscapes. I’d love to discuss them with you.
